Critical Reading
Critical reading is a purposeful process of analyzing what a text says, how it is constructed, and what response its choices invite.
批判性阅读是带着目的去分析文本说了什么、怎样组织,以及这些写作选择会引导读者作出什么反应。
Three Phases

-> annotate claims, questions, details, and connections
-> restate the main point and why it mattersNotes for Gist
A gist note is a short, provisional statement of what matters in a paragraph for the reader’s later purpose. It should use the reader’s own words, avoid unnecessary copying, and may include a question or response.
Minimal highlighting + one own-word gist note per paragraph is usually more useful than coloring many sentences without processing them.
Questions to Carry into a Text
- What is the writer’s central question or claim?
- What evidence supports it?
- How is that support organized?
- Which terms or assumptions need clarification?
- How does this text connect to or differ from other sources?
- What might I use, question, or extend?
