Acceptable Paraphrase
An acceptable paraphrase faithfully reconstructs another author’s idea in substantially new wording and structure while preserving attribution and citation.
合格转述是在忠实保留原意的前提下,用真正属于自己的语言和结构重建观点,同时保留归属与引用。
Four Requirements
- Represent the source’s meaning accurately.
- Write from understanding rather than patching synonyms into the original sentence.
- Mark every retained direct phrase with quotation marks.
- Provide an appropriate in-text citation and full reference.
Paraphrase still depends on the source. Changing the wording does not transfer ownership of the underlying idea.
Warning Signs
- distinctive phrases copied without quotation marks;
- source syntax retained with only a few word substitutions;
- keywords rearranged while attribution disappears;
- a quotation mark covering only part of the borrowed language;
- citation present, but wording still falsely presented as your own.
