Source Integration

Source integration connects an accurately represented source to the writer’s own reasoning, purpose, and contribution.

Minimal Move

They say -> I say -> So what

• They say: name the scholar and accurately quote, summarize, or paraphrase the relevant claim.
• I say: state whether you agree, extend, complicate, apply, or challenge it.
• So what: explain why this relationship matters to the question or audience.

A citation alone does not integrate a source. The reader must be able to see why the source appears at that point and how it changes the writer’s reasoning.
