Reader-Centered Writing

Core Sentence / 核心句

Reader-centered writing arranges context, claims, evidence, and transitions so the reader can follow and evaluate the reasoning without reconstructing missing connections.

Reader Questions /

  • What is the problem?
  • Why does it matter?
  • What exactly is the claim?
  • What evidence supports it?
  • How does the evidence support it?
  • Under what conditions does it hold?
  • What about the strongest objection?
  • Why does this section come next?

Introduction Bridge /

hook
-> link and context
-> thesis
-> organizational statement

Sentence and Paragraph Flow /

  • continuation;
  • cause;
  • contrast;
  • example;
  • qualification;
  • consequence。

Clarity Standard /

The reader’s effort should go into evaluating the idea, not decoding the prose.

Watch Out / 易错点

  • 缺少 context,直接抛 thesis;
  • hook 与 argument 无关;
  • 句子之间只有 topic 相似,没有逻辑关系;
  • 用长句和罕见词制造额外理解负担;
  • organizational statement 只是机械目录;
