Academic Citation

Academic citation creates a traceable connection between source-dependent content in your work and the original contribution it came from.

学术引用把你作品中依赖他人的内容,连回它最初的贡献者与来源。

Two-Part Connection

source-dependent sentence -> nearby in-text citation -> complete reference entry -> original source

Why Cite

  • give credit where it is due;
  • locate your claim inside an Academic Conversation;
  • let readers verify evidence and hold the writer accountable;
  • distinguish your contribution from borrowed data, ideas, and wording.

Citation is required for quotation, paraphrase, summary, specific data, and another person’s distinctive interpretation. Rewriting the wording does not make the underlying idea your own.

Context Rules

  • Common knowledge depends on audience and discipline.
  • The required citation style comes from the instructor or scholarly situation.
  • Citation generators and GenAI outputs require manual verification.
  • Permission to use AI and the method for acknowledging it are course-specific.
